About Queen’s Own

Queen’s Own is a fan organization for readers of Mercedes Lackey’s work. This website shares club information, fan contributions, and publications for members and other readers. Providing material free of charge does not make it free of copyright restrictions.

Mercedes Lackey’s works and the original elements of those works remain subject to the rights of their respective owners. Fan-club participation or publication here does not transfer those rights to the club or its contributors. These notices do not grant permission on behalf of Mercedes Lackey, publishers, artists, or other third parties.

Articles, fiction, artwork, photographs, book covers, and other materials may have different rights holders and permissions. Follow any copyright notice or license attached to the particular work. There is no blanket Creative Commons license for this website or its publication archive.

You may browse the site and use the downloads provided for reading. The original site described permission to keep one electronic copy and one printed copy for household use. That statement should not be read as a grant of rights that the club does not own or control. For any work, the applicable rights holder’s permission, license, and copyright law determine what copying or other reuse is allowed.

Unless a relevant license or permission allows it, obtain authorization from the rights holder before republishing, distributing, adapting, or using protected material commercially. Giving credit alone does not supply permission. Nothing in these notices limits uses allowed by applicable law, including fair use or fair dealing where applicable, or rights granted by an existing valid license.

Artwork and book covers

Artwork belongs to its respective rights holders, who may include the credited artists. A missing credit is not evidence that an image is in the public domain. Book-cover images may involve rights held by artists, publishers, or others; appearing on this site or linking to a bookstore does not authorize their reuse elsewhere.

The original site credits L. A. Malcor with creating or customizing some of its buttons. Contact the relevant creator or rights holder about reuse. Permission for the club to display an image does not necessarily include permission for others to copy it.

Please link to the page containing an image rather than embedding an image served by this site in another website. This request concerns direct image embedding; it does not prohibit ordinary links to pages or publications.

Fan fiction and contributions

The fan-fiction archive contains contributions based on Mercedes Lackey’s works. A contributor’s rights in their own original material do not include ownership of underlying material belonging to other rights holders.

If a contribution carries a specific Creative Commons or other license, check its terms and scope. A contributor can grant only rights they own or are authorized to license; a license for their contribution does not automatically authorize use of underlying characters, settings, artwork, or other third-party material. A general reference to “Creative Commons” without identifying a license is not a clear permission grant.

Submitting material does not transfer its copyright to Queen’s Own. Publication arrangements should identify the rights the contributor grants to the club, attribution, any editing permission, and where the work may appear. Please confirm those arrangements with the editors before submitting work intended for publication. See the privacy policy for publication of personal information.

Credits, permissions, and concerns

If you believe a credit is incorrect, material has been used without appropriate permission, or publication affects your rights, contact Linda A. Malcor at shashtah@gmail.com or Gregory Griffiths at rynok@yahoo.com.

Please identify the material and its page or publication URL, explain your relationship to the work, and describe the correction or action requested. We will review the concern and, where appropriate, correct attribution, seek clarification or permission, or remove material. Adding a credit alone does not resolve a lack of permission.

Links to bookstores, social networks, and other websites are provided for reference. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices; a link does not give Queen’s Own control over their content or services.

We aim to keep club information accurate, but older publications and contributed material may contain outdated information or errors. Contact the coordinators if you notice a problem. These notices do not exclude responsibilities or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
