Queen's Own
The Official Mercedes Lackey Fan Club
P.O. Box 749 Laguna Beach, CA 92652 USA
Series 3, Vol. 4, No. 6 June 1, 2003

Heyla, Misty fans!
Birthday Alert: Reviving an old QO tradition of notifying you of important events in our favorite author's life, Misty's Birthday is June 24. Larry's birthday is July 28. If you wish to send cards, please use their business address: [Ed. note 2003: The current address is Mercedes Lackey or Larry Dixon, c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. (The QO PO Box in Laguna Beach, CA is only for business mail intended for QO. We don't handle mail for Misty and Larry.)
Alabama Con Reminder: Misty and Larry are planning to attend! Please see the ad in the con section below and visit the con website at http://www.con-stellation.org/constell/index.html for more information. (Any QO members planning to attend? We'd love to see a group of you from the region go if possible.)
Yet another E-mail Change: As of June 30th, Moonstar's e-mail address will be healermoon@gmail.com. (Comcast bought her current provider.) Make sure you update your records!
Midsummer Festival Online: Instead of our usual off-line get-together, we're hoping to try an online festival this year. June 21st is a Saturday. Contact Danya at shashtah@gmail.com if you are interested in attending an RPG in the QO chatroom on that date. Or on Friday, June 20th or Sunday June 22nd. Give her a range of times you could make it. She'll pick the most popular time slot and set up the event.
Missing Chapter: Does anyone know if Arrows Online is still functioning? The contact information we have for them no longer works. If you have an update, please send it to Danya at shashtah@gmail.com.
Chapter Adoption: Is anyone interested in taking over Golden Grove, the California Chapter of Queen's Own? Theresa Young would like to step down so someone who actually lives in the region covered by the chapter could take it over. Any takers?
For that matter, several QO chapters are up for adoption. If you are interested in reviving an old chapter, take a look at the list at
Contact Danya at shashtah@gmail.com, if you are interested in adopting one of the existing chapters. (We now have a mostly-complete list of every chapter that's ever been started for QO, which we hope to have online soon. So check back in a while if you don't see something in your area.)
Chapter Spotlight, the Vanyel Fan Club: Several of our chapters are still doing quite well. One of the largest is the Vanyel Fan Club, an online chapter of QO. Here's what the chapter President, Herald Bastian, has to say about how the chapter began: "I began the VFC during the summer of 1997. It had a brief existence before that as a guestbook-type site collecting people's e-mail addresses and messages of interest in joining the club should it come into existence. I e-mailed the guy who owned the site and asked him about it. He brainwashed me into taking over the club since its prior president had vanished before doing anything with it." There are currently 84 members of the VFC. Already quite the going concern as a chat list, the chapter hopes to publish its first newsletter soon. If you would like to learn more, see the VFC ads below and visit their website at Vanyel Fan Club.
Hope you all have a grand Midsummer!
Zhai'helleva,
Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

Zines and Newsletters:
-
Austral'a'in: Editor: Cassandra Vuksa. We print fiction (both fanfic on Velgarth and other fantasy stories), poetry, art, reviews, recipes, articles, personas, pen pal ads and stacks more! This fanzine is up for adoption. Austral'a'in is up for adoption. If you are interested in adopting the chapter, contact Cassandra Vuksa, garou@netspeed.com.au.
-
Children of Velgarth: Editor: Kendra Renaud, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA 92652. I publish new and old personae, even previously published persona if asked by members in this new, official QO zine. I will only accept what was sent in for your persona to Queen's Own to be recognized. Any fan fiction written later should be sent to one of the other zines who really need it to keep their zines going. This fanzine will be published periodically when it reaches 80 pages or so to keep costs at $5.00 payable in U.S. funds or 12 IRCs. Make checks payable to "Kendra Renaud". The fee covers the cost of printing and mailing; you may share (but not duplicate!) copies of the fanzine. Watch the Queen's Own newsletter for release dates. Volume 2, Issue 2 is now available! For the contents list and additional information, visit Children of Velgarth. (Special Note: Make sure you use the P.O. Box Address and not my home address since I'm moving at the end of May. I don't want any orders to go astray.)
-
Companions' Grove: Editor: Devin Harris (Blue Devyn). Companions' Grove still needs stories and artists'particularly artists willing to illustrate stories! ! (Remember, all contributors get a free copy of the zine in which their work appears.) Volumes Seven and Eight are full, and awaiting the illustrations and final layout. Volume Nine is open to submissions. Unfortunately, I've had to increase some prices, due to an increase in the cost of running the zines and another upcoming postal increase. Current prices (not including shipping within the U.S.) are:
- Companions' Grove Volume One - $4.00 ($4.75 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Two - $5.60 ($6.35 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Three - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Four - $4.20 ($4.95 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Five - $7.00 ($7.75 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Six - $5.80 ($6.55 with color cover) - Companions' Grove Volume Seven - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover) - The Danya Winterborn Saga - $5.20 - Endgame - $3.85 - Fire Eyes - $4.40 - Shards of Autumn - $3.90 - The Sum of Duty - $5.80 - Do or Dye: A Guide to Companion Camouflage - $1.25 - Cat's Cradle - $7.60
For orders shipping in the US, I've instituted a maximum shipping cost of $3.85. Multi-zine orders which can be shipped in a flat rate envelope will be sent Priority Mail; larger orders will be sent Media Mail Insured, which is only slightly slower and doesn't have the zone rates (which wouldn't work with my shopping cart). Smaller orders will be sent First Class.
I take credit cards via PayPal, which is the cart's only payment option, but the cart can be used to calculate shipping, and checks/money orders mailed to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N Kelishan St, Pahrump, NV 89060.
Zines are printed on high-quality, bright white paper, comb bound, with cardstock covers. Story excerpts and cover art-as well as international pricing, submission guidelines, and PayPal ordering information-can be found at http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm . To order via snail mail, send check or money order (payable to Devin Harris; US funds only) to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060. People outside the US should go directly to http://www.greendragonpress.net/international.htm and check out the price break for buying zines in threes, before they go to the main page and get scared by the per-zine shipping.

Collegium News:
We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at Persona handouts and submission instructions.
You need a release form (online at Release form instructions) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.
All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to shashtah@gmail.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

From Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn:
Heyla, folks!
We're into the end-of-the-school-year madness. Summer school starts immediately after regular school ends, though, so we don't get a break in routine for a while yet. I'm looking forward to our vacation. We're hoping to visit Dinosaur National Park, Yellowstone and Lake Tahoe this year, probably in late July through early August. Anyone live between there and Southern California? Let me know if you'd like to try to meet somewhere to say "Heyla!" We're trying to work as many friends into our itinerary as possible <g>. Also, I'll be traveling with a computer, but I can't guarantee that I'll have access to the Net during that time. So e-mail response will be seriously slow, and the August newsletter is guaranteed to be late (That's getting to be a bad habit with me that I'd dearly love to break ::sigh::.).
Thanks to all of you who have inquired about my health. I'm still having quite a bit of back trouble from the auto accident, but things seem to be improving slowly. I think it's just one of those things that is going to take time to get over. At least I'm supposed to get my van fixed next week, which means that my daughter will be able to stop telling me that her "van is wrecked" every time we walk by it <G>. ("Yes, Kassie. Mama and Daddy know all about that. We'll get it fixed as soon as we can.")
My eldest son, Joe, and I are Yu-Gi-Oh! dueling buddies. We have actual cards as well as GameBoys. I can beat him using the electronic version of the game (He hasn't developed his deck much yet, and it's the Japanese as opposed to the American rules.), but he has an Exodia deck for the real cards and mops the floor with me 19 times out of 20 <G>. He's becoming quite the expert duelist. I want to take him to a real tournament, but they keep holding them on weekends where we have conflicts like wedding, graduations, and everyone in the family catching the flu <g>. Hopefully we'll get the timing right in the near future and finally get to see some real duelists in action.
John may be only 18-months, but he's practicing to be a mountain climber. "Hi, Mama!" he gleefully squeals from atop my microwave, dining room table, piano … It puts the recent National Geographic coverage on Mt. Everest in a new perspective <g>.
Hope you all have a great summer, and I hope I get the chance to meet some of you in person soon!
Zhai'helleva,
Danya
